The entertainment industry is in mourning following the passing of legendary actor Prabir Mitra. He breathed his last on Sunday night (January 5) at 10:15 PM while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. Following his death, discussions about his funeral arrangements have arisen, and the family has provided detailed information.
Actor Prabir Mitra had converted to Islam. His son, Mithun Mitra, confirmed that his funeral and burial would be conducted according to Islamic rites. After converting, his name was changed to Hasan Imam, though he continued to be widely known by his original name, Prabir Mitra, throughout his life.
In an interview, Prabir Mitra had mentioned that he converted to Islam to marry his wife, stating, "At that time, it was necessary to become a Muslim, and I have remained in that faith ever since."
On Sunday night, after his body was washed, it was placed in a freezer van at his home in Dhanmondi. His first funeral prayer will be held today after Zohr at the FDC (Film Development Corporation). The body will then be taken to the Channel I office for a second funeral prayer, and finally, he will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard.
Prabir Mitra had been suffering from various health complications for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital on December 22 due to oxygen shortage and other illnesses. After 13 days of treatment, his condition worsened, and he passed away.
